Separate new cards from reviews
New cards create future work. Reviews maintain work you have already started. If you add new material aggressively while skipping reviews, the queue grows faster than your memory.
Set a conservative new-card limit first, then complete due reviews with honest recall. Increase only after the workload stays comfortable for several days.
Use time and quality as guardrails
A daily target might be 20 focused minutes rather than a card count. Stop if answers become guesses, every rating becomes the same or you are reading solutions without attempting retrieval.
Cueable’s adaptive plans change the mix based on performance and deadline, so the session is organised around memory value rather than an arbitrary streak. That is more useful than chasing a large number for its own sake.
A simple starting range
For many learners, 10–20 new concise cards plus due reviews is a reasonable experiment, not a prescription. Dense medical facts, quotations or essay structures may justify fewer. Easy vocabulary may allow more.
Review the effect after a week. If the due load is rising sharply, reduce new material. If sessions are short and recall remains strong, add gradually.
