Why people look beyond Anki
Most searches for an Anki alternative are really searches for less friction. Some people want a more native Mac interface. Others want clearer planning, more varied practice, easier imports or a tool that does not turn every study session into a long queue of identical flips.
That does not make Anki bad. It means the experience around spaced repetition matters. A scheduler can decide when a memory needs work; it cannot make you pay attention to the answer.
